A Letter from Omohau
I never set out to start a pet care company. At 13, I just wanted a PlayStation. I knocked on doors in my neighborhood, offering to do odd jobs. One person offered me R50 to walk their dog. I said yes.
It was hot. I was sweaty. The dogs pulled so hard I could barely keep up. But I showed up. And I think that’s where it started: learning that reliability isn’t always glamorous, but it matters. You show up, rain or shine. You try, even when you’re not perfect. You care, even when it’s hard.
Back then, I didn’t raise enough for the PlayStation. I moved neighborhoods and forgot the dogs’ names. Life carried on. But years later, when I stumbled into a neighbour's open garage door asking for help with a flat bicycle tire, I was greeted by barking; three dogs, one of them a German Shorthaired Pointer named Luna. Her owner, Lee, welcomed me in, fixed my bike, made me a grilled cheese sandwich, and without knowing it, handed me my first real client.
Lee couldn’t walk Luna herself because of her leg, so I started walking her. Three, four times a week. She treated me like family, like a grandson. And I realized something: this was more than a side hustle. This was purpose.
Over time, I built teams, lost teams, tried new businesses, failed, started again. I even lost almost everything. At one point, I had just one client left: Annabel and her energetic shepherd, Bolli. But that one client kept Floofy alive. And with her trust, I could start rebuilding again.
Through it all, one thing stayed constant: the pets. I have a husky named Foxxy who lives with my dad. I only see him on holidays. But every time I do, he leaps into my arms like no time has passed. That love, that joy, that unshakable bond, I see a little bit of Foxxy in every pet I work with. And I treat them as if they were him.
Floofy is my way of making a promise. To you, and to your pets. That no matter the chaos, the setbacks, the weather, or the world, we will show up. We will care. We will be reliable, thoughtful, and kind. Because at the end of the day, it’s not your job to prove how much you love your pets. It’s ours. It’s Floofy’s turn to show them (and you) that we care.
